Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how CARVIS handles the personal information you share when you chat with our AI matcher, verify your phone, and ask us to connect you with a financing specialist. Please read it alongside our Terms of Service.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
CARVIS is an independent, AI-powered vehicle-financing matcher operating at carvis.ca. We are not a bank, lender, or car dealership. Our role is to have a guided conversation with you, understand your situation, and connect you with the right Special Finance specialist inside the Go Auto network — which includes Go Auto dealerships across Western Canada and Go Kia Richmond. This policy applies to everything we collect through the CARVIS chat, the carvis.ca website, and the SMS phone-verification step that is part of the matching flow.
2. The privacy laws we follow
We handle your personal information in a way that is designed to comply with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, the substantially-similar provincial privacy laws (such as those in Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec). Our text messages are sent in a manner intended to comply with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), which governs commercial and transactional electronic messages.
3. The personal information we collect
During a CARVIS conversation we collect the information you choose to share so that a specialist can evaluate your file. Depending on how far you go in the chat, this can include:
- Identity and contact details — your name, phone number, and email address.
- Employment and income — your employment status, employer, job title, time at work, and stated income.
- Housing — whether you rent or own, your housing payment, and time at your address.
- Credit story — your own description of your credit situation, any past credit events (such as a bankruptcy or consumer proposal), and your consent to a credit check.
- Vehicle interest — the type of vehicle you want, your budget, trade-in details, and down payment.
- Conversation data — the messages you send to CARVIS, captured turn by turn as a set of application fields.
- Technical and usage data — basic technical information such as your IP address and a randomly-generated session identifier that lets us continue your conversation.
4. How we collect it
Almost all of the information above is collected directly from you, voluntarily, as you type answers into the CARVIS chat. To confirm we can reach you, we verify your phone number by sending a one-time code by SMS through our messaging provider, Twilio, and asking you to enter it back. We do not buy your personal information from data brokers.
5. How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- match you to a Go Auto Special Finance manager or dealership suited to your situation;
- route your application details to that specialist so they can follow up and evaluate financing options;
- verify your phone number and confirm you are reachable;
- detect and prevent fraud, spam, and misuse of CARVIS;
- understand and improve how CARVIS works as a service;
- meet our legal, regulatory, and record-keeping obligations.
6. Your consent (PIPEDA)
By using the CARVIS chat and submitting your information, you consent to our collecting, using, and disclosing that information for the purposes described in this policy — chiefly, matching you with a financing specialist and helping evaluate your file. Where you tell CARVIS that you agree to a credit check (captured in the flow as your credit-check consent), that agreement lets a dealer or lender review your credit as described below. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at privacy@carvis.ca, subject to legal or contractual limits; withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer match you with a specialist.
7. Phone and SMS consent
When you reach the phone-verification step, you agree to receive a one-time verification text message from CARVIS. This message is transactional and is sent so we can confirm your number. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply. If you later receive texts from us and no longer want them, you can reply STOP at any time to opt out of further messages.
8. How we share and disclose your information
CARVIS exists to connect you with people who can actually arrange financing, so sharing your details is a core part of the service. We may disclose your information to:
- Go Auto Special Finance managers and dealerships (including Go Kia Richmond) so they can follow up on your application;
- Subprime and third-party lenders that the dealer works with, so they can assess whether they can finance you;
- Service providers that help us operate, such as Twilio (SMS verification) and our website and hosting providers, who may only use your information to provide services to us;
- Authorities or others where we are required or permitted to do so by law.
We do not sell your personal information for unrelated third-party advertising.
9. Credit inquiry authorization
To evaluate whether you qualify for financing, the dealer, Special Finance manager, or a lender you are matched with may obtain a consumer credit report about you from a credit bureau. Depending on the stage, this may be a “soft” inquiry (which generally does not affect your credit score) and/or, once you move forward, a “hard” inquiry (which may appear on your credit file). By indicating your consent to a credit check in the CARVIS chat, you authorize these parties to request and review that report for the purpose of assessing your eligibility.
10. How long we keep your information
We keep your personal information for as long as we reasonably need it to fulfil the matching purpose and to meet our legal, audit, and record-keeping obligations, after which we take steps to delete or de-identify it. Because CARVIS is a new service, our specific retention periods and automatic deletion timelines are still being finalized and are pending review; if you would like to know how long we hold a particular piece of information, contact us and we will tell you what we can.
11. Where your information is stored (cross-border)
CARVIS is a Canadian service, but some of the providers we rely on operate in other countries. In particular, our SMS verification provider (Twilio) and certain hosting and infrastructure providers may process or store data in the United States as well as in Canada. This means your information may be transferred across borders and may be accessible to authorities in those countries under their laws. We use providers that we believe apply reasonable safeguards to protect your information.
12. How we protect your information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards intended to protect your personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a breach that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will respond and notify affected individuals and regulators as required by applicable law.
13. Your rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to ask us to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is inaccurate or out of date;
- delete your information;
- withdraw a consent you previously gave.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@carvis.ca. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
14. Cookies, analytics, and tracking
For this demo release, CARVIS runs with minimal tracking. We use only the technical data needed to operate the chat — such as a session identifier that keeps your conversation going — and we do not currently run third-party advertising or cross-site behavioural-tracking tools. If we add analytics or cookies in the future, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent.
15. Age and eligibility
CARVIS is intended for individuals who are of the legal age of majority in their province and legally able to enter into a vehicle-financing transaction. CARVIS is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as CARVIS evolves or as the law changes. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of CARVIS after an update means you accept the revised policy.
17. Contact us
If you have questions about this policy, want to exercise a privacy right, or wish to reach our privacy contact, email us at privacy@carvis.ca. (This is a placeholder contact for the draft; a dedicated privacy officer will be named before this policy is finalized.)
